#FallWritingFrenzy

I am so excited! FallWritingFrenzy is back!

I love the challenge of a word limit and autumn is always inspiring.

I was drawn to two photos from the lovely selection this year. In the end I chose:

And this year I have strayed from kidlit to something more sinister! (YA)

A huge thank you to @kaitlynleann17, @Lydialukidid for the opportunity.

Be Careful What You Wish For

Raven loved Halloween and always wished the spooky atmosphere could last.

One day, a dark cloud moved over the village, dripping oily liquid onto the fields and filling the air with a sharp, sour smell. Only the orange pumpkins remained untouched.

The pumpkins made Raven smile and gave the villagers hope. They brought them to the hall, brightening the darkness.

Later, as evening fell and the pumpkins glowed, haunting music and uneasy laughter filled the air.

Suddenly, a spirit appeared in front of Raven, holding a bunch of roses. When she tried to take the flowers, they dropped to the ground, lifeless.

Without hesitation, Raven smiled a wicked grin and slipped into the shadows after the spirit.

Thunder rumbled. Lightning flashed as everyone stared.

Raven felt a surge of energy. Her eyes darkened, and her head transformed into a pumpkin with narrow eyes and sharp teeth.

“Poor girl,” someone in the crowd muttered.

Raven cackled with glee, heart pounding with wild delight as she embraced the shadowy new world surrounding her.

And as darkness swallowed the village, a chilling whisper echoed through the night:

“Be careful what you wish for.”
